Pramila Brahma walks out from Assembly

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - BPF MLA Pramila Rani Brahma today staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly alleging discrimination by Speaker Pranab Gogoi.

Brahma said that the Speaker does not give her opportunity to speak in the House, including to ask supplementary questions or to raise any issue in the House.

The problem originated during the Question Hour when Brahma wanted to ask a supplementary question on an issue related to Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). However, Gogoi did not allow Brahma to ask the supplementary question and said that she had not raised her hand earlier and allowed another MLA to instead ask a supplementary question. Brahma protested that she had raised her hand, but the Speaker ignored her claim.

Later, as soon as the Question Hour got over, Brahma rose from her seat and alleged that Gogoi has a habit of discriminating her and the BPF MLAs and never gives her any opportunity to raise any issues in the House.

She wanted to ask a pertinent question regarding IAY houses for people who have suffered during the 2012 riots in BTAD, Brahma said.

Brahma even said that she is senior to Gogoi as far as the number of years served as an MLA is concerned.

The BPF MLA then walked out of the House.
