Pramathesh Barua remembered

GAURIPUR, Nov 30 - Under the auspices of the Gauripur branch Sahitya Sabha, Pramathesh Barua, the famous filmmaker of the country was remembered on the occasion of his death anniversary on November 28, at a memorial meeting held for the purpose at the conference hall of the Gauripur public library here.

The portrait of he legendary film personality was garlanded by Punam Barua of the royal family. The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Satyabrat Chakrabarty, president of the branch Sahitya Sabha. Atul Chandra Ray, secretary of the branch, explained the objectives of the meeting. Several speakers, including Prof GK Das, retired Principal Ashok Chakrabarty, Kshitish Chandra Ray, Prabir Kumar Barua, Manas Chakrabarty etc., paid homage to Pramathesh Chandra Barua and highlighted his contributions to the film industry. They also lamented that Barua was not properly honoured in the State and not even at his birth place Gauripur. Punam Barua, Ronald Ghosh Barua and Aditya Kashyap presented a number of religious songs.

The meet also remembered Amrit Bhushan Deb Adhikary, former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and Mamoni Roysom Goswami, on their death anniversaries.
