GUWAHATI, Feb 12 - Kalpa, a society for promotion of literature, art, culture and social harmony, is organizing the eighth edition of Pragjyoti International Dance Festival (PIDF) � an annual classical dance extravaganza � to exhibit the wide range of India�s classical dance forms together on one platform besides celebrating the rich heritage of Assam.
The five-day classical dance extravaganza will be held at Shraddhanjali Kanan, here, on February 13 and 14; at Tezpur University on February 15 and 16; and at IIT Guwahati on February 17.
This year the festival is being organized in association with Tezpur University and IIT Guwahati. The event is supported among others by Sattriya Kendra � Sangeet Natak Akademi and DD Bharati.
�Each and every year we have been trying to reach out to people with various dimensions and perspectives of dance forms. The festival is curated in such a way where each participant � both in the form of performer and audience � takes back home a rich experience of the heritage of dance,� Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Dr Anwesa Mahanta, who is the festival director of PIDF, said.
She added that a lot of local performance traditions like Dhepa Dhuliya, Ojapali and Mukha Bhaona along with Sattriya, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak had been incorporated in the event.
The Kalpa team will also conduct interactive sessions with the students of Delhi Public School, Guwahati on February 13, and at Tezpur Law College on February 16.
