Power failure in city areas

GUWAHATI, July 24 � A fault in the 33 KV Kahilipara-Ulubari transmission line that occurred around 2 pm made life miserable for the people in several parts of the city this afternoon. However, the fault was repaired and the line was restored around 5:10 pm, said sources in the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL).

The city has a power demand of around 220 MW during the day hours in these hot summer days, while in the evening hours (6 pm to 11 pm), it has a power demand of around 240 MW.

There was a power availability of around 200 MW in the city till the fault occurred, sources said.

The State has a power demand of around 1000 MW to 1050 MW during the day time these days. Its power demand during the evening hours these days is between 1300 MW and 1350 MW.

The State receives between 950 MW and 1000 MW of power from various sources during the day hours, and it receives around 1200 MW of power from the sources during the evening hours.

Thus, there is a shortfall of around 100 MW of power in the State during the day time, while its shortfall stands at around 200 MW during the evening hours, sources said.
