SILCHAR, Sept 12 With mercury level increasing day by day, loadshedding has become a regular phenomenon in entire Barak Valley and the worst suffers are the student community and the old people.

It is not only hampering the day-to-day life but is also adversely affecting the business community. Loadshedding for at least five to six hours were reported from some of the areas in the valley.

Sources said that the power crisis has occurred due to sudden breakdown of a power grid station at Kuandun-Khelrihat in Meghalaya which disrupted power supply in the entire Barak Valley.

KK Chakraborty, general manager, Central Assam Electricity Distribution Company Limited said that the problem occurred due to the sudden breakdown of the power station in the neighbouring State of Meghalaya. The disturbances occurred mainly from the 132 KV distribution power. The Powergrid people are working to restore the service but it could not trace out the fault till last Saturday.

Although the company has facilitated alternative arrangement from Manipur and Tripura, yet it has been able to fulfill just one third of the total requirement.
