Potable water scarcity hits Udalguri villages

By CORRESPONDENT

KALAIGAON, Aug 10 - People living in villages bordering Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan in Udalguri district are facing acute crisis of potable water for the last two months due to the mechanical failure of Dhansiri Valley-3 water supply scheme at Sapangaon village.

This water supply scheme is under the jurisdiction of PHE Tangla Irrigation Division. Thousands of affected villagers had requested PHE officials for the restoration of the potable water supply time and again, but to no avail. Finding no other way out, villagers had to consume unhygienic drain waters.

The villagers finally approached the jawans of the SSB 61 Bn stationed at Bhairabkunda. Accordingly, SSB personnel have started supplying potable water for the villagers with vehicle mounted water tanks.

It needs mentioning here that the village falls within the area of Udalguri LAC which is represented by Rihon Daimari, Minister PHE, Assam, whose house is situated just ten kilometres away. People have urged the government to immediately restore normal supply of potable water to Sapangaon and other neighbouring villages.
