Post Offices distribute over 1 lakh notes

DIBRUGARH, Nov 26 - Following the demonetisation of the existing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the postal department in Upper Assam distributed around 1,20,000 notes worth approximately Rupees 20,00,000,00 among the public. The post offices in the region also collected nearly 50,00,000 pieces of specified bank notes till November 23, sources from the postal department informed.

The works were done at eight head post offices, 234 sub post offices and 1526 branch post offices in rural sectors covering 14 districts of Upper Assam under Dibrugarh postal region, which is headed by a Post Master General. As per the performance report of the regional postal office, the postal division exchanged and deposited a total of 1,66,721 pieces of notes worth Rs 10.87 crore till Thursday evening.
