GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Just Be friendly (JBF), an NGO working for the welfare of street dogs, will start an awareness drive on post-Diwali animal care in the city.

According to JBF, a large number of puppies get crushed under car wheels on the night of Diwali when they try to escape from the noise of fire crackers. These fire crackers cause harm not only to animals, but also to the environment and humans. The organisation has appealed to all sections of society to take steps in order to minimise the effect of fire crackers.

We cant expect to exterminate the use of fire crackers, but we can minimise their use or effect over the animals through preventive measures, said Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, managing trustee of the organisation.
