Post-71 migrants must leave: AASU

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 14 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today made it clear that it would not allow any post-March 25, 1971 migrant to stay in Assam irrespective of his or her religion. Assam is not going to bear the burden of any of the post-March 25, 1971 migrants, the student body said in a statement here.

The student body, which was one of the signatories of the historic Assam Accord, warned all the political parties not to create any more confusion on the issue of the post-1971 migrants, which has already been settled by the Assam Accord.

Reacting to Sundays statement made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari on the issue, the student body said that the foreigners issue should be settled as per the provision of the Assam Accord. No view on the issue that goes against the spirit of the Assam Accord is to be accepted, it said.

It has demanded of all the political parties to initiate moves for the implementation of the Assam Accord within a fixed deadline.
