Positive aspects of open university highlighted

AMGURI, May 27 � The Vice-Chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) Shrinath Boruah paid a goodwill visit to Amguri College in Sivasagar district recently and inspected the KKHSOU study centre at Amguri College.

In honour of this dignitary a welcome-cum-felicitation meeting was organised at the college auditorium on the same day. The meeting was presided over by retired senior lecturer Dulal Boruah and its objective was explained by the college�s study centre co-ordinator Himanta Borgohain.

A welcome address was presented by Dipa Rani Chetia, principal in-charge of the college. Vice Chancellor Shrinath Boruah was warmly welcomed by the students and teachers of the college and the study centre felicitated him with a gamosha and a sambardhana patra. Two teachers of the English Deptt of Jhanji Hem Nath Sharma College, representing the KKHSOU study centre of the same college felicitated the Vice-Chancellor publicly in the meeting. Baruah attended the meeting as the special guest and elaborated on the aims and objectives of the only open university in the North East region.

He said that the open university is designed to offer further higher education to the mature students who could not continue their studies due to some sort of barrier despite their cherished longing for higher education. KKH State Open University established in 2006 has shown good progress in the NE region, he added with facts and figures.

He also said that there is no difference between conventional and open university students. In foreign countries our students are preferred for jobs. KKHSOU is preparing diploma courses in journalism and tourism as well as certificate courses in computer applications, audio-visual repairing and intends to start certificate courses in agriculture and veterinary creating employment for students of rural areas, VC Shrinath Boruah added.
