GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - Netizens on Monday bombarded social media sites with salvos against actor Jatin Bora who did a U-turn on the CAA and rejoined the BJP, eight months after quitting the party over the controversial law.

The actor shared his press conference on a Facebook page, during which he tried to justify his decision to come back to the saffron fold and publicly apologised to the leadership and members of Assam State BJP for his participation in the anti-CAA movement.

Notably, after assuming power in the State, the BJP-led government appointed Bora who occupies a special place in the Assamese society for his extraordinary acting talent as chairman of the Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation Ltd.

But when the anti-CAA movement gained momentum across the State and everyone, including the artiste fraternity, come out to the streets of Guwahati defying even curfew, Bora too joined the protests at Latasil Field. Addressing the gathering during the protests, Bora had admitted that only because of the love of Assamese people he could become a successful actor, and as such, it was his bounden duty to stand with the public on every issue.

But on Monday, Bora stated that during the anti-CAA protests he had become emotional and that only now he has realised the mistake.

The anti-CAA movement had caused extensive damage to the city. It was a horrific experience for many people including me as it claimed lives of five youths, he said.

Bora also admitted that he is not well-versed with politics, rather he wants to do something worthwhile for the cinema industry of Assam.

Following his announcement, social media users lambasted him with angry comments. Almost all the 2,000-odd comments in the post were hard-hitting, denouncing the actors act and calling him an opportunist.
