GUWAHATI, April 17 - In a heart-warming incident, a poor Hindu couple from Uttar Pradesh borrowed money from villagers to accompany a Muslim man from Assam to his home in Goalpara after he was lost while on his way back home from Ajmer Sharif.

Md Hazrat Ali of Juntaipara under Baguan Police Station in Goalpara district had gone to Ajmer Sharif on March 20. On his return journey, because of some mental sickness, he disembarked from the train somewhere in Uttar Pradesh and subsequently went missing.

Later, Madan Lal, his wife Saraswati Devi and their daughter of Muraw village under Thariaw Police Station of Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh found the man loitering in their village.

The couple took good care of him and brought him to Baguan yesterday and handed him over to his worried guardian, Goalpara Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha told The Assam Tribune.

The couple are extremely poor. In fact they came here on borrowed money to ensure that Hazrat Ali reached home safe. Goalpara police is arranging the return journey of the couple, Sinha said.

Today, the Nagarik Commitee and Village Defence Parties of Baguan Police Station in Goalpara felicitated Madan Lal, his wife Saraswati Devi and their daughter for their humanitarian service and sense of selfless duty.

Various organisations, including AAMSU heaped praise and felicitated them.

I am sure the couple will go back home and proudly tell their neighbours and other villagers of the honour they recieved in Goalpara, which will definitely inspire others in Baguan, the Superintendent of Police added.
