GUWAHATI, Dec 25 - Demanding job regularisation, more than 200 teachers working as guest faculties at 11 new polytechnic colleges of the State under the banner of New Polytechnic Faculty Association of Assam will go on a strike from January 4.
The association on Wednesday sent a letter to the Director of Technical Education, Assam in this regard.
President of the association, Netramoni Baruah said that the teachers have decided to abstain from classes from January 4 to 7 if the government or other higher authorities do not give any written assurance for regularisation and job security.
We have been working full time since the inception of the institutes with full dedication since 2017 at a fixed salary and there has been no hike which is very de-motivating. It is very sad and depressing that nobody is paying heed to our requests. The teachers working as guest faculties are from Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Baksa, Goalpara, Nalbari, Barpeta and Karimganj polytechnics appointed by DTE, Assam since 2017, he added.
We were selected by the Department of Technical Education on the basis of our academic background. We have been continuously requesting the government to support us but no action has been initiated as yet, general secretary of the association Alakesh Sarmah said.
