Polls over, people readying to revel in Bihu spirit

GUWAHATI, April 12 � As the Assembly elections are over, the people of the State are now looking forward to indulge in the Rongali Bihu spirit wholeheartedly. Initially hit by the poll-related activities, the Bihu committees are now doing brisk preparations to celebrate the festival with all its grandeur.

In its 33rd year, the Madhya-Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani has chalked out elaborate plans to celebrate Bihu on April 14, 15 and 16 in association with the Bharatiya Sanskritik Sambandh Parishad at Nabagraha Kali Mandir field, Silpukhuri.

A cultural procession would be taken out on April 14, after which noted physician Dr Alaka Goswami would hoist the Bihu flag.

State-level competitions of Bihu huchori, Bihuwoti and Assamese modern and traditional songs would be held among the individuals and groups on April 14 from 7 pm onwards.

Like every year, the All Guwahati Students� Union would celebrate mukoli Bihu on Thursday, April 14 at the Judges� Field from 10 am onwards.

The Guwahai Bihu Sanmilani, one of the oldest Bihu organizers of Guwahati, has also planned a five-day programme to celebrate the occasion. On April 14, TG Baruah, chairman of the Assam Tribune Group would hoist the Bihu flag at the Latasil playground at 10 am that would mark the beginning of a number of cultural programmes. On April 17, the Bihu Rani and Bihu Konwari competitions would be held in the evening. The popular Bihu Samragyi competition would be held on April 18. Group competition of Jeng Bihu would be organized on April 16 from 3 pm onwards.

The Dakshin-Pub Guwahati Rongali Bihu Sanmilan has also chalked out elaborate plan to celebrate Rongali Bihu at Rajgarh.
