BONGAIGAON, Dec 9 - Polling in the second-phase panchayat election today, was peaceful in Bongaigaon district.
In some polling stations, the process continued even after 3 pm due to the heavy turnout of the rural voters.
According to Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Babulal Sharma, nearly 70 per cent of the 4,16,038 voters in 65 Gaon Panchayats had cast their ballots to elect 12 Zila Parishad Constituency (ZPC) members out of 50, 65 Gaon panchayat presidents out of 239, 650 Gaon panchayat members out of 1876 and 65 Anchalik members out of 225 candidates fielded by different political parties in the district.
Ballot boxes will be kept in the strong room made inside Bongaigaon College campus here. Counting of the ballots will be conducted at the same venue on December 12 from 8 am.
