KOLKATA/SILIGURI, April 18 (IANS): Around 70 percent voters exercised their franchise as polling ended in the first phase of the West Bengal assembly elections spread over the six northern districts Monday.

However, a large number of people were still in the queue at a few booths when polling officially ended at 5 p.m.

"Polling will continue in these booths for some time," said an election official.
