Poll preparedness in Kamrup reviewed

GUWAHATI, April 4 - The general observer for Boko (SC) LAC DK Mishra, general observer for Chaygaon and Palasbari LAC R Jain, general observer for Hajo LAC Rajendra Ratnoo and expenditure observer for the four LACs of Kamrup election district N Balram in the presence of police observer for Kamrup election district Gautam Cheema today reviewed the poll preparedness of the Kamrup election district.

The review meeting was held at the conference hall of the IIT Guest House in North Guwahati which was attended by the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer of Kamrup, Vinod Seshan, and Superintendents of Police of Kamrup and South Kamrup Districts and other senior officials.

On the law and order, the observers took stock of the security management plan for the elections. They discussed issues like deployment of armed forces and security personnel, prevailing situation in inter-state check points, security of polling stations, polling personnel and strong room besides security measures taken for contesting candidates, etc.

While discussing poll preparedness, the observers stressed on distribution of the photo voters� slip through the booth-level officers within the stipulated timeframe given by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The observers also took detailed stock of various aspects, such as issue of postal ballot papers, basic minimum facilities, standard voting compartments, facilities provided in the model polling stations and all-women polling stations and special measures taken facilitating access to the differently-abled, visually challenged, lactating women and elderly voters.

The arrangements to be made for the 48 hours before the poll enforcement were also discussed at length in the review meeting.

The observers also reviewed the mechanism for enforcement of the model code of conduct. The DEO of Kamrup election district apprised them about the functioning of the flying squads, static surveillance teams, excise teams, etc., in the district.

The observers expressed their satisfaction over the preparation taken by the Kamrup election district for the ensuing Assembly elections in the district and also instructed the authorities concerned to take all possible measures for holding the election in a free, fair and peaceful manner on April 11.
