Poll preparations on in Kokrajhar seat

KOKRAJHAR. March 30 - With the announcement of the date for parliamentary election, political parties are working round the clock to make their winning prospect better.

Along with the rest of the Brahmaputra valley, elections to the 5-Kokrajhar (ST) Lok Sabha constituency will be held in the third phase. Accordingly, the notification was issued on Thursday and the same will be received upto April 4, the date for scrutiny of nominations is April 5 and withdrawal of nominations is April 8. The polling date is April 23 and counting will be held on May 23, 2019.

Meanwhile, preparations for free and fair elections in respect of 30-East-Kokrajhar (ST) LAC segment of 5-Kokrajhar (ST) HPC are almost complete. Different cells have already been constituted to streamline different maters and officer incharge against each cell has been appointed. There are 245 polling stations under 30-Kokrajhar East LAC. Of the 245 polling stations, six polling stations have been identified as critical and three as vulnerable.

In Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, there are altogether 17,48,827 voters, out of which 8,93,237 are males and 8,55,590 females. Besides there are 8813 service voters and 2171 PWD voters will decide the fate of the contesting candidates.

Meanwhile, several meetings have already been held with political parties on the model code of conduct. The Deputy commissioner and the returning Officer of 5-Kokrajhar (ST) HPC, Partha Pratim Mazumdar has urged the leaders of the political parties in the district to strictly follow the guidelines of the Election Commission of India for free and fair polls.

On the other hand to bring awareness among the people for free and fair election and maximum participation in the voting, the Kokrajhar district administration has been organising many voters awareness programmes across the district. The district administration has launched a series of events to make the voters aware about their rights and motivate them to come to polling stations on the poll day and cast their votes.
