SIVASAGAR, March 28 - Poll observer to the 12 Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency, Ranjit Sinha, on Tuesday visited Sivasagar and Charaideo districts that constitute part of the constituency and took stock of the poll preparedness of the district officials in their respective areas and overall situation in these two districts.
The observer directed the district administration to make all out effort in rooting out illicit liquor and cash transactions during the period.
The district administration through its Flying Squads (FS) has been conducting raids in different areas and illicit liquor dens, and seized and destroyed wine and other materials under the Assam Excise Act, 2000, besides removing flags and hoardings of political parties from public offices and institutions.
The Mohila Samities voluntarily helped the FS to destroy the local liquor booths in the tea garden areas.
On March 24, the FS led by Monorama Moran and Indika Gogoi, RCOs, Demow, and Bihangi Bhagawati Das, BDO, Demow, Demow Police and Excise department officials conducted raids in Thowra, Panidihing, Nitai, Saraguwa, Attabari, Khongia, Bokota and Mohkhuti areas and destroyed large number of illegal liquor booths and participated in sensitisation programme.
The FS under Executive Magistrate Sampreeti Goswami seized a tempo with three cartoons of liquor and arrested one Jatin Chutia in this connection.
Again on March 25, police seized several litres of IMFL and registered two cases against the sellers.
