Poll observer tests positive for COVID-19

JORHAT, March 9: The Central poll observer deputed by the Election Commission of India for Jorhat district tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning.

Jorhat DC Roshni A Korati told The Assam Tribune that poll observer Manjit Singh Brar from Punjab had arrived at Jorhat Circuit House here on Monday and had flu-like symptoms today.

She said Brar was made to undergo a rapid antigen test that came positive, following which he was shifted to a friend’s house here as per his request where he is staying in isolation.

The deputy commissioner said the two persons, who had served breakfast to the observer, were also tested for COVID-19 but they were found to be negative.

Protocol officer Ashim Baruah, the PSO and driver were placed under quarantine, Korati added.

She further said that the ECI has deputed a new observer PA Siddiqui who would be sent from West Bengal on Wednesday.
