Poll measures taken in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 14 - The Lakhimpur district administration has initiated a number of measures as part of the poll preparedness for the Assembly elections.

With a view to ensuring peaceful polls, the district administration has asked the licensed arms holders to deposit their weapons to the nearest police stations. Issuing an order, the District Magistrate of Lakhimpur said that any failure of such could attract legal action.

In another poll preparedness move, the commandant of Assam Home Guards, Lakhimpur, has asked the interested trained Home Guards to enlist to be deployed in polling duties. They are asked to enlist by submitting their certificates along with photos at the Lakhimpur Home Guards office at the earliest.

The Lakhimpur DM has also called for tenders for the supply of food for the Assembly polls in the district. Local registered suppliers are called to tender with refundable court fee of Rs 8.25 for supplying food for the polls. The Lakhimpur district administration has also set up a complaint booth and control room at the office of the Deputy Commissioner for all polls related grievances. Meanwhile, an Election Commission observer has arrived in North Lakhimpur to monitor the expenditures of contestants. Milan Kumar Singh, an Indian Revenue Service officer, has been camping in North Lakhimpur Circuit House since March 11.
