Poll fight to regain people�s rights, says Manipur Congress chief

IMPHAL, March 27 - The forthcoming Lok Sabha elections may turn out to be a fight to regain people�s rights, said Gaikhangam, president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee while addressing a function held for the Congress candidate of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency, K James, today.

�So, let us all show our seriousness by supporting the Congress candidates,� said Gaikhangam, also a Congress Working Committee member.

Stating that the people have seen the performance of the BJP which is in power both at the Centre and in the State, the former Manipur Deputy Chief Minister said that the fight would not be between the Congress and the BJP, but between the people and the BJP.

Echoing him, Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that the Congress candidate would get support from the public in the eight Assembly constituencies of the valley under the Outer Parliamentary constituency (reserved for ST).

Ibobi Singh alleged that the present State Government has been taking the credit for the work initiated by the erstwhile Congress regime.

Later, speaking to media persons, Congress candidate K James renewed his pledge to work for the weaker sections of the society if he came to power. Congress MLAs and other important office-bearers attended the day�s function.

On Monday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had told reporters that the BJP would focus on the agenda of development in the general election as the people have suffered a lot during the Congress rule.

Meanwhile, a similar ceremony for the Naga People�s Front candidate, Dr Lorho S Pfoze, contesting from the Outer Parliamentary seat was also held in Senapati town today, reports received here said.
