GUWAHATI, March 16 - During a routine checking today, the police seized Rs 12.9 lakh from two different locations in the Fancy Bazar and Geetanagar areas here.

While a sum of Rs 12 lakh in cash was seized from the possession of one Promod Mahato near Sani Mandir under Fancy Bazar Outpost, the police seized Rs 90,000 from a vehicle in the Geetanagar area on the basis of inputs.

�As per the election guidelines, the Model Code of Conduct team and the Income Tax department have been informed about the seizure, although no arrest has been made as yet,� said DCP (Central) Ranjan Bhuyan.

Asked if the cash seized belongs to anyone affiliated to any political party, Bhuyan informed that the matter is being investigated. Since the elections were announced, an amount of nearly Rs 75 lakh has been recovered from across the State.

Meanwhile, drives against illicit liquor and unlicensed Indian-made foreign liquor have been intensified across the State including Guwahati.
