Poll campaign office torched

By CORRESPONDENT

BONGAIGAON, March 12 - Unidentified miscreants torched a portion of an election campaign office of United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) at Birhanggaon in Chirang district last night, a few hours after the State Election Commission had announced the date of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election.

The incident occurred last night when our party workers left for home, UPPLs Kajalgaon block unit secretary Moneswar Khaklary said.

Rwngwra Narzary, a sitting member of BTC from no. 15 Kajalgaon council seat and the vice-president of UPPL, has suspected the involvement of ruling Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) party in this violent activity.

But BPF partys spokesperson and Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary refuted the allegation and clarified that his party never takes part in such activity.

When contacted Chirang district Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar said, I am not aware of this incident.

Chirang district Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh said, We will register a case and initiate investigation to nab the miscreants after we receive an FIR from the complainant.

Meanwhile, a police team visited the spot and collected primary information, the SP added.

It may be mentioned here that some UPPL leaders had brought corruption charges against some BPF workers, who had allegedly misappropriated huge funds from government schemes in Birhanggaon last year and since then workers of both the parties had become aggressive, local residents said.
