Political parties apprised of EC rules, regulations

SIVASAGAR, March 12 - In a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner�s office here on Monday, representatives of all the political parties were addressed by Deputy Commissioner Dr Laksmanan S, Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha, ADC Mun Gogoi and DEO Jagadish Brahma to apprise them of the Election Commission�s rules and regulations following Sunday�s notification for the forthcoming parliamentary election.

The Deputy Commissioner explained the process for holding free and fair election with the cooperation of all the political parties, their candidates and agents. He also informed them that they can apply for holding meetings, rallies etc., through an App titled �Subidha�.

Further, he informed the representatives that no political party or candidate will be allowed to use government office premises, schools, walls, boards, electric posts, halls etc., during the period. The paries were advised to submit the list of agents at the earliest.

The SP cautioned the parties against the use of mass media and social media for publication of derogatory, inflammatory, communal or other sensitive matters which may disrupt peace and create law-and-order situation. He also urged the leaders of the political parties to keep the administration posted about participation of star campaigners in advance so that adequate security measures can be provided.

The meeting was also attended by Kamruz Jaman, District IT Officer, Sibu Banik, FAO, besides assistant commissioners and other officers.

DDC meet: A sitting of the District Development Committee was organised at the Sukapha Bhawan on Monday and it presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr Laksmanan S.

The DC informed the officers present on the precautionary measures to be taken while carrying out official works following proclamation of parliamentary election, besides rules and regulations prescribed by the Election Commission.

He directed the district-level officers to arrange removal of banners and posters from their respective campuses immediately. He also cautioned them against declaring any new scheme or programme. Jagadish Brahma, District Election Officer also spoke in detail about the election code of conduct.
