By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, April 5 - Assam Police has been using the latest technology for tracing out the contacts of the COVID-19 positive persons of the State and a special team under the supervision of ADGP (STF) is already working on it liasoning with the Health department, said Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, DGP, Assam Police, while talking to the media here at the Police reserve on Saturday on the sidelines of his interactions with the rank and file of Darrang and Udalguri police.

In response to the questions from the Media regarding role of the State in this critical stage of sudden spread of novel coronavirus especially linked to Nizamuddin Markaz issue, Mahanta said, We are taking up the matter very seriously and trying to trace the people coming to Assam from outside like in Nalbari. Many other people coming either from Nizamuddin or other places outside the State for spreading religious messages have come to us at Bongaigaon and in a few other districts. They are cooperating with us and they have been quarantined.

The DGP also warned the rumour mongers in social media of stern action. Some antisocial elements have been misusing the social media over religion, community or some individual. The Assam Police will not tolerate such actions. These people will be traced out and will be dealt with very strongly, Mahanta asserted. He also warned people against violation of rules during the lockdown period. Lockdown means lockdown. People must abide by the lockdown rules be it going to namaz or naamghar or performing last rites. Anyone who provokes the police by breaking the rules must face the music, he reiterated.

Earlier, the DGP directly interacted with the grassroot level officers and selected staff of Darrang and Udalguri districts and wanted to know their experience in handling the present situation after the outbreak of the deadly novel coronavirus in the State. Darrang Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan also spoke on the occasion and thanked the DGP for his morale boosting visit for the district police force.
