Police set up title clash with ASEB

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 9 - An added time goal by Joseph Maslai put Assam Police Blues in the final of the 11th NN Bhattacharyya Knock-out Football Tournament organised by the Guwahati Sports Association.

In the second semifinal, played at the Nehru Stadium here today, Assam Police Blues edged Gauhati Town Club (GTC) 2-1.

The game was locked 1-1 till the regulation 90 minutes, but in the added time unmarked Maslai was fed by Lohit Taye inside the box. Maslai kept his cool and gently pushed home.

Earlier, GTC went ahead in the 16th minute when Ningthoujam Binan beat the Police Blues goalkeeper Amit Narzary with a header.

The policemen fought back after stung by the reverse and levelled in the 30th minute through Lohit Taye. Town custodian Mithun Samanta fumbled in gathering the ball and Lohit capitalised the opportunity and pushed home. It was overall a mediocre encounter as the frontliners of both the teams hardly could show any all out effort through out the course.

For Police Blues Karuna Gayari and Lohit Taye tried to hit at the opponent goal but they were lacking in accuracy.

Town Club depended much on their attackers Rabindra Meitei and Olaniran Joseph. But they were marked properly by the opponent defenders and never allowed to do any damage.

Now Assam Police Blues will take on ASEB in the final on August 11.
