Police resort to blank fire to disperse mob at Kazigaon

KOKRAJHAR, April 19 - Kazigaon Police last night resorted to blank fire and lathicharge to disperse a mob at the police station under Parbatjhora Subdivision in Kokrajhar district, Superintendent of Police Rajen Sing said.

The incident took place around 7 pm when an unruly mob tried to enter the police station premises to release four villagers picked up by the police last evening in connection with a witch-hunting case in the area.

Soon after the incident, high police officials of Kokrajhar and Parbatjhora rushed to the spot with additional forces to control the situation.

It may be mentioned here that Basanti Marak (50) of Garo Bazar village under Parbatjhora Subdivision was assaulted by some miscreants, who also threatened to kill her suspecting her of practicing black magic. After receiving the information, police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued her.

Police also arrested four villagers in this connection, namely Sarsenga Sangma, Samsung Marak, Mycle Marak and Miran Marak.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested one Sailesh Hembrom from Anandapur village under Gossaigaon Police Station in Kokrajhar in connection with Gossaigaon PS Case No-161/2017 U/S 120(B)/295/(A)/ 427/506 IPC, Kokrajhar, Sing added.
