By The Assam Tribune

IMPHAL, July 24 (PTI) - The son of a local CPI leader, who was abducted by militants, was rescued safe and unharmed from Manipur's Imphal West district, officials said today.

23-year-old Y Manaoba, son of Lamlai's CPI secretary Y Megha was abducted by militants of the Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council (City Meitei faction) from Lamlai area on July 16.

The ultras then called Megha, who is a close friend of Health minister and senior CPI leader Ph Parijat, and demanded ten per cent contract work and 10 government jobs at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science, they said.

Megha told the militants that he was not in a position to give contract work or make appointments.

However, Manaoba was rescued yesterday by a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Imphal West RK Jhaljit from a house at the Samurou area.
