Police rally to hold NFR

GUWAHATI, Aug 8 � Assam Police Blues made a tremendous comeback in the later part of the second half to make up a 0-2 deficit against NF Railway Sports Association in their RG Baruah Super Division League encounter.

On a slippery ground at the Nehru Stadium here today, NF Railway went 2-0 ahead in the 52nd minute. But with a never say die attitude, the policemen came back to the game scoring two goals.

Railway defender Punakon Chawrok put his team ahead in the 42nd minute with a header anticipating a flag kick taken by Prasanta Bharali. Jilendra Brahma scored the second goal in the 52 minute with a gentle lob over Police custodian Rekibul Haque.

Buoyed by the comfortable 2-0 lead, the railwaymen continued with their attacking style and came close of scoring atleast on two occasions.

But, the spirited cops took advantage of the slushy under foot condition and started raiding the Railway territory with some counter attacks. Substitute Manoj Bora changed the complexion of the situation with some good ball play in the middle. They earned a corner kick in the 66th minute and defender Bijoy Rabha converted it to a goal reading the ball sent by Bijoy Rongmai.

Scoring the reducer, Police players enhanced their momentum and finally scored the equaliser through captain Robijit Jigdung in the 84th minute. Substitute Bijoy Borgohain initiated the move with Madhusudhan Hazarika. Finally, Robijit got the ball inside the box and beat Railway keeper Bijoy Sonowal with a gentle push.

It was a fast-paced encounter as all the players of both the teams shouldered their responsibilities effectively.
