TURA, Jan 18 - Three days after the sensational kidnapping of seven small-time traders from near Dokongsi in North Garo Hills district, the search for the seven abducted traders from Assam is still on by security personnel.

Police said additional troops from different districts of Garo Hills along with a police team from Goalpara are on continuous operation in different parts of Kharkutta and Dorenggre.

On Saturday, a meeting of residents of Goalpara and Kharkutta had decided to launch their own search operation to locate the traders.

Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) and CoBRA commandos are also tracking the jungles of Garo Hills to locate the traders, said Ramesh Singh, SP, North Garo Hills. The police so far have no clue or lead on their whereabouts.

Meanwhile, a resident of Kharkutta said that village teams were also on the lookout for the group and the victims. We will continue doing so until they are found. We dont want this act of abduction to strain our relationship with traders from Assam, added the resident.

The traders were abducted while they were returning from Dokongsi weekly market, near Kharkutta. The militants stopped a vehicle in which 12 traders were traveling and abducted seven of them.

The kidnapped traders are Tustu Paul, Manoranjan Sarkar, Putul Mukherjee, Piyush Biswas, Pradip Das, Bijoy Sarkar and Ganesh Basu. They hailed from Darangre in Goalpara district of Assam.
