Police operation in South Kamrup

MIRZA, July 22 - Additional SP of South Kamrup Dr Sadique Ali Ahmed today said that a major area domination combing operation has been going on along the Assam-Meghalaya border in South Kamrup district to foil any attempts by militants to create disturbance ahead of the Independence Day on August 15.

The Additional SP told this correspondent that the police force of South Kamrup district has been conducting raids and picking up suspected persons as preventive measures. He said that one Raja Lakra � who originally hails from Tezpur and is now settled in the remote Joramkhuria village located near the Chandubi lake along the Assam-Meghalaya border in South Kamrup district � was interrogated yesterday. But Lakra was released today.

Dr Ahmed said that the police is closely monitoring the developments along the Brahmaputra river. But so far, there are no reports of any suspicious activities or infiltration bids through the Brahmaputra river. Operations along the Brahmaputra river will also be launched soon, he added.

On whether there are any reports of militants sneaking into Assam from Meghalaya through South Kamrup district, the Additional SP said that the police is keeping close tabs, but there has been no such movement till now.
