Police officer shoots self

NALBARI, May 18 � The in-charge of the Solmara police outpost in Nalbari district, Rabindra Nath Choudhury killed himself by shooting at his head today. The incident took place at the police officer�s quarters situated in the campus of the police outpost. The police later recovered the 9mm pistol with 5 rounds of live ammunition and a blank cartidge. Choudhury used one bullet and kept the other five bullets on the table.

According to sources, Choudhury had joined the outpost on March 3, 2009.

The bullet-riddled body was recovered from a chair. Choudhury hailed from Govindapur under Patacharkuchi police station in Barpeta district. The cause behind the suicide of this police officer is yet to be ascertained.

The Superintendent of Police of Nalbari, Raunak Ali Hazarika immediately rushed to the Solmara police outpost to take stock of the situation. Choudhury left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.
