UDALGURI, June 12 - In a bizarre incident, a sub-inspector posted at the Panery PS in Udalguri, allegedly committed suicide on Friday morning by shooting himself in his quarter.
The deceased, identified as Sukumar Talukdar who was in his late 50s, shot himself with his 9 mm service pistol, informed Bhergaon sub-divisional police officer Nirmal Ghosh, adding that an investigation is on to find the reason behind the incident.
Sources divulged that the officer who was known to be sincere and dedicated in his work was the second-in-charge of the police station.
The deceased was a resident of Chamata in Nalbari district.
His body was later retrieved in presence of a magistrate and sent for post-mortem to the Udalguri Civil Hospital.
