Police nab 5 suspects in murder case

DIBRUGARH, Nov 21 - Police have nabbed at least five suspects for interrogation in connection with the murder of one Om Prakash Agarwalla, the manager of Vinayak Flour Mill, Maijan.�

Superintendent of Police Gautam Bora said the suspects were picked based on certain important leads. Agarwalla was shot dead on Tuesday evening by unidentified gunmen at Graham Bazar.

Several organisations and citizens here have demanded immediate identification and arrest of the perpetrators of the crime. Eastern Assam Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Hindu Kranti Dal, Assam and few others submitted separate memorandums to the district administration, seeking the arrest of all those involved in the killing. They also demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the bereaved family and government jobs for the two daughters of the deceased. The organisations also demanded installations of an adequate number of streetlights and CCTV cameras all over the town, among others.

Meanwhile, local MLA Prasanta Phukan, Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, Additional Deputy Commissioner Deepu Kumar Deka, DIPRO Sulakshana Mithi Kachari visited the residence of the deceased and handed over a sanction letter of ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family on behalf of the State Government.
