Police meet local bodies on bhoomi pujan

JORABAT, Aug 4 - Ahead of the Ram Mandir bhoomi pujan ceremony on Wednesday, the Assam Police administration has taken steps to thwart any untoward incident that might take place to disturb the peaceful environment. In connection with it senior police officials today convened meetings with representatives of nagarik committees, right wing groups and other local bodies.

At a meeting held at the Jorabat Police Outpost, ACP of Basistha PS Punnam Pegu asked the representatives of the local bodies to abide by the COVID-19 protocol while celebrating bhoomi pujan.

ACP Sonapur Abotani Doley, while talking to The Assam Tribune, said similar meetings were convened at Sonapur PS and Khetri PS. �Gatherings of more than five people won�t be allowed as a measure to prevent spread of novel coronavirus and all events involving public participation will have to be concluded before 6 pm,� he said.

Jorabat Unnayan Samiti working president Tarsem Singh said the people here will celebrate by lighting earthen lamps. �A special puja will be held at the Sri Sri Bhadrakaleshwari Mandir where not more than five people will be allowed to participate,� he said.
