Police martyr�s family honoured

RAHA, Oct 20 - The Nagaon Police today organised a visit to the home of martyred police sub-inspector Pranjal Saikia, who was killed in an exchange of fire at Tongona village under the Kakopathar PS in Tinsukia district in March 2011 as part of its activities to mark the Police Commemoration Day tomorrow on October 21.

The visits were carried out by a delegation from the Police department of Nagaon led by DSP, Nagaon, Laba Kumar Deka. Police Circle Inspector of Nagaon, Jyoti Lahon and officer in-charge, Raha PS Moloy Kumar Acharjee joined the delegation.

On the occasion, the delegation recalled the services of the men in khaki and their role, which is becoming challenging with every passing day. Simultaneously, the delegation recalled the service of martyr Pranjal and honoured his family members with phulam gamosas.

It may be mentioned here that Pranjal was born in 1982 at Dighaliati village of Raha. The second son of retired school teacher, Jhulan Saikia, he joined the Assam Police in 2009 and was posted as Probationary Sub-Inspector of Police at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district. He laid down his life in the line of duty while raiding, along with his team, an ULFA hideout at Tongona village under Kakopathar police station on March 15. The police officer was hit by two bullets fired by militants and he died on the spot.Two members of the ULFA were also killed by Pranjal and his team in the encounter.
