GUWAHATI, Oct 6 - The Assam Police has made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the Durga Puja festival is celebrated peacefully all over the State and security reinforcements have been sent to the areas considered sensitive.
Special Director General (Law and Order) Kula Saikia told The Assam Tribune that all-out efforts have been made to ensure peaceful celebrations and discussions were held with the district police forces to know their requirements. He said that police and paramilitary reinforcements have been sent to the districts as per their requirements so that no district faces any shortage of forces to deal with any eventuality. He admitted that so far, there has been no specific input about any threat from any part of the State, but the police is taking no chances and all possible precautionary measures have been taken.
Saikia said that detailed guidelines have been sent to all the district police forces to ensure that the celebrations are safe and people-friendly. The district police forces have already held a series of meetings with the Puja celebration committees to brief them properly about the steps need to be taken by them during the celebrations. The Puja committees have also been asked to train up their own volunteers to ensure that the people can enjoy the festival without any trouble, he added.
The Special DG also appealed to all sections of people of Assam to celebrate the festival peacefully.
