Police file second supplementary chargesheet

GUWAHATI, Jan 4 - The Dibrugarh Police today filed the second supplementary chargesheet in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), naming the 24 arrested ACS, APS and allied services officers as accused.

Till now, as many 37 accused including former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul have been chargesheeted in connection with the scam.

The 46-page chargesheet was submitted by investigating officer Surjeet Singh Panesar and assistant investigating officer Subhasish Baruah before the Court of Special Judge, Assam around 6 in the evening.

Additional Special Public Prosecutors Nayan Kumar Das and Pranab Kumar Das appeared on behalf of Dibrugarh Police.

Those named in the chargesheet are Pallabi Sarma Choudhury, Dipak Khanikar, Debajit Bora, Anirudha Roy, Himangshu Choudhury, Sabira Imran, Jayanta Kumar Nath, Harshajyoti Bora, Hemanta Hillol Saikia, Sudipta Goswami, Amarjit Das, Jatindra Prasad Baruah, Jyotirmoy Adhikari, Babul Islam Choudhury, Raju Saha, Dwithun Borgoyari, Rumi Saikia, Dilip Kalita, Kunal Das, Kamal Debnath, Rajarshi Sen Deka, Geetali Doley, Sunaina Aideo and Nishamoni Deka.

All the accused have been booked under Section 12/13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, read with Section 109/120B/465/468/471/201 of the Indian Penal Code and the prosecution sanctions against each of the accused have been sought from the competent authority.

The investigating officer also submitted before the Court that other accused including Dr Mrigen Saikia, Mofidul Islam and Rakesh Gupta (APS) are still absconding necessitating further investigation to ascertain more evidence.

The Court also directed the investigating officer to further submit the status report of the ongoing investigation on February 22.

The Court after perusal of the chargesheet also rejected the bail application of accused Nishamoni Deka which came up for hearing today.

However, the Court in response to a prayer filed by Nishamoni Deka�s lawyer further directed the authorities of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to send a paediatrician for daily health check up of the three-month-old baby of Deka inside the jail premises.

It also directed the jail authorities to take necessary action.
