IMPHAL, Dec 6 - Manipur police averted a major tragedy as they detected a five kg Improvised
Explosive Device (IED) in Sagolmang area on the outskirts of Imphal.
Official sources said the powerful bomb, which contained fragmentation-generating objects like nails, ball-bearing and 2 kg RDX, was found by police at Irol Yotpi Pukhao Laipham in Imphal East around 3 pm on Friday.
They believed the IED, planted by suspected militants to target security forces in the area, was a remote control one which was retrieved by a police bomb disposal squad and later defused.
On the same day, a self-styled cadre of NSCN-K was apprehended by a combined team of Police Commando and 12 Bihar Regiment from Konthoujam Maning Leikai during a counter-insurgency operation.
Police informed that the NSCN-K leader was identified as Ponthanglung Panmei, 49, hailing from Tamenglong district�s Noney Part-I.
