GUWAHATI, July 17 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced that a Police Commissioner will be appointed in Guwahati city shortly . He also said that every citizen should come forward to play their roles as �responsible citizens� to check crimes.
Talking to media persons in the State Assembly premises, Gogoi said that he did not oppose shooting of the incident of molestation on July 9 by a photojournalist. But at the same time, he said that the journalist should have played his role as a responsible citizen by informing the police about the incident immediately. It is a positive sign that there is a healthy debate on role of journalists, he added.
Gogoi said that the Assamese society is a civilized society. There may be one or two incidents which bring bad name to the society and the citizens must come forward to help the police in preventing such crimes.
The Chief Minister said that the Government would take steps to rehabilitate the victim of molestation.
Replying to a question on the Chief Minister�s public relation�s cell releasing the photo of the victim yesterday, he said that a mistake was made and immediately all media houses were informed about the mistake.
On the presidential elections, Gogoi said that Congress nominee Pranab Mukherjee would get 111 votes in the 126 member house.
