GUWAHATI, July 7 - Assam Police Blues entered the last-four stage of the 12th Nripendra Narayan Bhattacharyya Knock-out Football Tournament.
In the inaugural match of the eight-team championship, organised by the Guwahati Sports Association at the Nehru Stadium here today, the policemen outshot Navajyoti Club by an aggregate of 4-2 goals in tie breaker.
During the regulation time both the teams netted one goal each. After a barren first session Navajyoti went 1-0 ahead in the 61st minute when Ishak Sangma headed home off a measured centre sent by Dhabesh Daimary. But the Police Blues found the equaliser in the 70th minute through Malaram Basumatary combining with Mofidul Islam.
Both the teams squandered numerous scoring opportunities through out the match.
In the tie breaker N Bikash Singh, Joseph Maslai and Luit Taye were the successful shooters for the winning team while only Pankaj Hazowary could hit the target for Navajyoti.
