Poets� meet at Ashwaklanta Dewalaya

NORTH GUWAHATI, Nov 21 � Under the auspices of the North Guwahati unit of the Asom Kavi Samaj, a poets� gathering was organised at the open space of the renowned Ashwaklanta Dewalaya recently.

The session was attended by a few invited guests besides the members of the body. Dr Durgeswar Sarmah, president of the organising committee, conducted the session. Earlier, Pradip Boruah, secretary of the Kavi Samaj, explained the purpose of the meeting and greeted the members present at the meet.

The session was inaugurated by Haren Sarmah, secretary (Doloi) of the Ashwaklanta Dewalaya managing committee. Sarmah, the Doloi of the Dewalaya, while welcoming the members present, narrated how the scenic beauty of the Dewalaya has been a source of inspiration for the devotees of art, culture and poetry since time immemorial. The poets, who recited their self-composed poems, included Prof Bhairab Sarmah, Ganesh Chakraborty, Prodip Boruah, Kamal Bora, Ranjit Choudhury, Robin Changkakoti, Dr Durgeswar Sarmah, Hariharan Doloi, lyricist Ratan Das and Prabhat Bordoloi. Arun Sarmah, an ex-headmaster of the North Guwahati Girls� High School, read an article written on the Ashwaklanta temples.

At the end, Dr Durgeswar Sarmah, also a reputed litterateur, evaluated the poems read out and spoke a few words on the art and technique of composing poems. Dr Sarmah�s speech was followed by the presentation of the vote of thanks by the secretary, Prodip Boruah.
