GUWAHATI, Dec 22 � This is an attempt to understand life and people through the medium of verse � but the organisers Chirantan Sahityar Din has set this effort, an annual affair in their activity calendar, differently by taking poetry to the grassroots.
On January 1, 2011 poets of all age groups will be in communion with nature and they will recite their verses under the open skies at Prasanti Udyan, Dighalipukhuripar.
Christened Ghahanir Kavita, this programme has been attracting a lot of people having an inclination towards poetry. What makes this programme different is that the general public has easy access to the poets and gets to know them more closely.
According to the organisers, the programme has been inspired by the ideology of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla who had stressed the need for elevation of life to a higher plane through creative pursuits.
�Ghahanir Kavita was conceptualised with the objective of highlighting the human values and the triumph of light over darkness,� said the organisers asserting that under the prevailing circumstances of unrest and distrust, only creative pursuits can usher the positive change.
The organisers further said Ghahanir Kavita has been a platform for the poets to voice their protest against those forces that have put humanity to shame. It needs to be mentioned here that on earlier occasions, the participating poets had recited their verses that reflected the turmoil and transition of the society.
�We also want to show that poets are not an elite class and that they are very much like the common people,� the organisers said pointing out that people often regard the poets a secluded class.
�We are encouraged by the response that we have got to our programme. Poets and readers must come together to realise the sufferings and demands of life,� mentioned the organisers.
The programme will like in the previous years, try to discover the truth of life and confirm its faith in humanity.
