GUWAHATI, Sept 10 - The 86th birthday of eminent poet Nilamani Phukan was celebrated under the aegis of the Assam Fine Arts and Crafts Society and the Gauhati Artists� Guild at the poet�s Bezbaruah Nagar, Maligaon residence today.
�It was a low-key celebration, as Phukan sir normally avoids such occasions. Our members visited him at his residence and felicitated him. Many other distinguished personalities from the spheres of art, culture and literature also wished him on the occasion,� said a member of the Society.
Phukan has also been a long-standing president of the Society.
A volume titled Kone Diba Pran, Kone Pohar written by poet Amitabh Phukan, who also happens to be Nilamani Phukan�s son, was formally presented to him. The book was released yesterday at a meeting of the Society.
