RAHA, Aug 19 � Prerona, the ladies wing of the Punjab National Bank Parivaar, has identified education for girls as one of the thrust areas for the bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Many of the girls at the school level still lack basic attention from the school authority as well as their parents. Education still seems a distant dream for girls especially in the rural areas. In order to address this issue to some extent and to make a visible impact on girls� education, Prerona in association with the Raha branch of the Punjab National Bank on Monday organised a programme to felicitate genuine poor girl students , mainly belonging to PNB adopted village Topakuchi of Raha.
A total of 10 students of Raha Girls� High School received school kits containing uniform, books and stationery, tiffin boxes and school bags from the Prerona authority under its �Ladli� scheme in a function organised at the PNB, Raha premises. Alka Das, PNB Women�s Wing circle head and Sunita Sing, vice chairperson, Prerona delivered the kits to the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries along with their parents expressed their satisfaction while acknowledging the donations.
Dr MR Dash, chief manager, PNB, NE circle in his speech stressed the importance of girls� education in the society and said that educating girls and women is an important step in overcoming poverty. He thanked the PNB, Raha branch in his speech for adopting the girl students for the cause of their education.
Alokesh Bhattacharjee, branch manager, PNB, Raha delivering his speech said, �Educated women are more likely to stand up for themselves, their rights and more likely to initiate action for social change �.
Anuwar Hussain Saikia, senior manager, PNB, NE circle also attended the function. He stressed upon the importance of girls education in the society and threw light on its impact in society. Manjyoti Bora, chairman, Raha Town Committee, in his speech thanked the PNB authority for taking such an initiative for girls� education and appealed to other financial institutions of the town to follow the path.
