PNB distributes masks, sanitizers

GUWAHATI, July 21 - India�s second-largest public sector bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched an initiative to combat the spread of COVID-19, complementing the Government of India�s extensive efforts to contain challenges and risks posed by the growing pandemic.

The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the campaign at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. The initiative is launched as PNB�s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign and it will entail providing COVID-19 related prevention materials like masks, sanitizers, etc., across India in 662 districts, a press release stated.

As a part of the above-mentioned programme, on July 20, PNB Guwahati Zone conducted this nationwide programme all over the seven States of the North-east from the respective district headquarters. On this occasion more than 30,000 masks, 5000 hand sanitizers, soaps and gloves have been distributed to the needy people.

In Kamrup (Metro) district, Zonal Manager of PNB Guwahati, Shio Shankar Singh accompanied by Nirendra Kumar, DGM personally handed over these materials to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), Biswajit Pegu.

Our Tezpur Correspondent adds: The main branch of the Union Bank of India (UBI)-Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Tezpur town organized a COVID-19 awareness-cum-mask & sanitizer distribution programme in front of Tezpur Sadar Police station on Monday. The event was attended by Arup Kumar Ray, chief manager at Tezpur main Branch of UBI/PNB, Dhaneswar Boro, branch manager, UBI/PNB, Mission Chariali Branch in Tezpur, Sumit Kashyap, senior manager, PNB-EOBC, Poly Lahiri, asstt manager, Tezpur branch, UBI/PNB who among others distributed masks and sanitizers to over 2000 needy people in the town. The officials also spoke on precautionary measures to be taken against COVID-19.
