PMAY assistance for 20,000 Mizoram families

AIZAWL, March 9 - Under the new scheme called the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 20,000 families would be assisted in Mizoram to construct their own houses during 2015 to 2022, Mizoram Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister Zodintluanga said.

The scheme will not only cover district headquarters but all the 23 Census towns in the State.

Meanwhile, applications for 1,096 units of urban housing constructed by Urban Development department under the Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) are being received since yesterday.

The houses were constructed at three locations in Aizawl city � Economically Weaker Section Housing project at Lawipu (408 units), BSUP Scheme at Rangvamual (368 units) and Durtlang BSUP Housing Project (320 units).

Zodintluanga said on Monday that 1,950 houses have already been constructed by the owners of the lands under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) and all the owners have already taken possession and occupied their respective houses.

�Mizoram was the recipient of the Best Performing State Award for the department�s performance under the BSUP and the IHSDP during 2007-2012 among the Small States and Special Category States by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation,� the Minister told a press conference.

He said the department also took up 78 units of Individual Housing and 64 units of Multi-Rental Dwelling Unit under the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and the works were in good progress. � PTI
