PM to campaign in Arunachal today

ITANAGAR, March 29 - With the battle lines for April 11 simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and Assembly elections drawn in Arunachal Pradesh, canvassing for the polls has gathered momentum as a host of BJP star campaigners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national president Amit Shah, are set to hit the campaign trail to garner support for their party candidates.

Besides PM Modi and Amit Shah, the list of star campaigners includes Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national general secretary and North East in-charge Ram Madhav, senior leaders Ram Lal, Shahnawaz Hussain, Smriti Irani, Ajay Jamwal, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Minister and NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.

The Prime Minister will be arriving here tomorrow to address a public meeting at Aalo in West Siang district. Aalo falls under Arunachal West Parliamentary Constituency. Modi will pay another visit to the State on April 3 and address an election rally at Pasighat in East Siang district under Arunachal East Constituency.

While Ram Madhav will be addressing a public meeting at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district on April 4, BJP chief Amit Shah will be visiting the State on April 5 next to address an election rally at Bordumsa in Changlang district. He will be accompanied by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Similarly, the Congress has also released a list of 27 star campaigners for the general elections. The list includes the likes of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, his sister and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior party leaders Luizinho Faleiro, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Navjot Singh Siddhu & Zenith Sangma, film actors Asrani & Nagma, among others. But the party has not provided their itinerary.

National People�s Party (NPP) president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his brother and general secretary are also scheduled to hit the campaign trail in the State seeking support for their party candidates. Though Sangma�s itinerary has not been finalised yet, it was learnt that the NPP chief will address public rallies at Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district and Raga under Kamle district.

Post withdrawal of candidacy, 181 candidates (as per the final list provided by Nirvachan Bhavan) have remained in fray for 57 of 60 Assembly seats (as three seats have already been won by the BJP without any contest) and 12 nominees for the Parliamentary polls, including seven for Arunachal West and five for Arunachal East seat.
