PM to attend Manipur Science Congress

IMPHAL, March 13 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the 105th Science Congress at the Manipur University (MU) campus on March 16. The five-day congress will see a series of programmes, besides presentation of scientific papers.

�It will be a major scientific event. Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, and Secretaries of various Ministries are likely to attend the inaugural function,� said Vice Chancellor Prof Aditya Prasad Pandey of Manipur University. It is a challenge for Manipur University to host an event of this magnitude within a very short period, but with sincere efforts of Governor Dr Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, everything will sail smoothly, he said. All the preparation works will be completed by March 14 for the forthcoming event.

About 5,000 delegates, including scientists, faculty and research scholars from Indian universities and abroad, are expected to participate in the congress. Three Nobel Laureates � Dalai Lama, Prof Muhammad Yunus and Prof Hiroshi Amano � will deliver lectures on various subjects. Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya and Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi will separately inaugurate the children�s science congress and science communicators� meet respectively.

A number of scientific sessions including Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Information and Communication Science and Technology, Earth System Science, Engineering Science, Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Science will also be held during the congress.
